Composers born in the Soviet bloc in the 1930s, such as Schnittke, Pelto, Kapustin, Silvestrov, and Kancheli, are rich in individuality, and their works, oriented toward sounds and expressions different from contemporary music in the West, have become known in the West since the mid-1980s. A pianist devoted to works from this period, Blumina's new release is a collection of works by Kancheli, who was born in Georgia (now Georgia). He says, "There is no music and no life without romanticism. Romanticism is the power of supreme beauty that overcomes ignorance, violence, and evil. Blumina, who was born in Russia and aspired to be a ballerina as a child, also conducts the music, which captures the composer's unique mood. Kancheli also composed a number of film scores. Little Daneliade" was inspired by Georgi Daneliya's 1986 science fiction film "Kin Thee," and includes a reference to Offenbach's "Hoffmann's Boat Song. Boston Waltz" is a gentle piece of music that lasts a little over 22 minutes.The melancholic, choppy music and fragmented, unstable ideas of the piece make it a curious work that is not really suited for dancing. The nine pieces selected from the "18 Pieces," which are based on music for films and plays, are all short, lasting only two to three minutes, and offer a moment of quiet sweetness, just as the symbols "cantabile," "dolce," and "dolcissimo" suggest.
