Description:

The Mannheim School, a group of 18th century German composers who were active in the court orchestra of Philip Theodor, Elector of Palatinate, was one of the core members of the Mannheim School. Carl Stamitz (son of Johann, the founder of the Mannheim School) was one of the leading figures of this school, and left behind many symphonies and concertos, including nearly 40 "Concerto Symphonies" in the style of Baroque concertos. These are characterized by at least two soloists facing the orchestra, and although tutti and solo sections are juxtaposed, the tutti portion accounts for a larger percentage than in a typical concerto. Most of Carl Stamitz's works are in three movements, and most of them feature solo violin and cello, although some of them feature seven solo instruments. Most of these were written and printed in Paris in the 1770s.As in the previous two clarinet concerto collections (555053 and 555415), Paul Meyer will be joined by the Mannheim-Pfalz Electoral Chamber Orchestra, of which he is principal conductor beginning with the 2019/20 season, for a stretchy performance with other soloists. In Concerto No. 9, the solo violin part in the second movement is played by a clarinet, which is considered a possible substitute. The solo violin part in the second movement was played by a clarinet, which is said to be a possible substitute for the clarinet. Naxos Japan
