[Trumpet and organ feast! Khachaturian's longest work] Khachaturian's Symphony No. 3 was composed as a symphonic poem for the "30th Anniversary of the Russian Revolution" in 1947, and was premiered by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under Mravinsky in December of that year. The piece was written for a large orchestra including 15 trumpets and an organ, and is full of Khachaturian-like characteristics, including the occasional folk melody in the pentatonic scale amidst the raging flood of sound. The piece concludes with an overwhelmingly loud sound. Although it was criticized for not being suitable for general performance due to its peculiar composition, it was revived as "Symphony No. 3" after Stalin's death. Since there are few recordings of this piece, the appearance of this latest recording will be welcomed. The excerpt from "Gaîne" is also worth listening to. Naxos Japan
