Founded in 2002, the Rastrelli Cello Quartet has been performing an original repertoire ever since. The ensemble takes its name from the Italian-born Russian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli (1700-1771), whose unique activities were inspired by the great Russian architectural style of the late Baroque period. Initially, the group performed chamber and orchestral pieces by Sergio Drabkin, one of the founding members, as well as standards from cello works, combined with arrangements of popular music, jazz, klezmer, and tango, but on this album, the 20th anniversary of the group's founding, the players Each of them performs their own original works.
