Siegfried Wagner was born the eldest son of Richard Wagner and Cosima Liszt. Although he originally wanted to be an architect, he turned to composition following in the footsteps of his father. He studied composition under Humperdinck. He also showed great ability as a conductor, playing an active role in both performance and direction at the Bayreuth Festival. Unlike his father, he was known for his gentle nature, and many of his works are based on fairy tales and other familiar themes rather than grandiose words. This "All because of a Little Hat" is the 11th opera composed in 1915. The plot is taken from various fairy tales, including those of the Brothers Grimm, with Kateriesschen (Little Kateriess) and Frieder as the actual heroes of the story. The synopsis of the opera is given in the prelude, and the light motifs of the main characters are also used in the elaborate writing style. *This is a different source than the previously released DVD (2.220006, recorded in 2015).
