Paavo Järvi, Estonian Festival Orchestra

Description:

The Estonian Festival Orchestra was founded in 2011 as a result of the Parnu Festival, which was started by Paavo Järvi in his native Estonia. The third album on ALPHA is a collection of works by five leading Estonian composers. Known for his poetic and scenic style, Tonu Kulvits dedicated "To The Moonlight" to Paavo Järvi in 2020, a year when the global pandemic left people in solitude, with the subtitle of "Three Blues for Orchestra". It is a beautiful work that expresses and accompanies the emotions of people living in difficult times, while using blues idioms. Chordae" by Ulo Krigl, known for his orchestral works, electronics, and film music, originally takes its title from ancient Greek and Latin, and includes meanings that are linked to various languages, such as "chords," "strings" of instruments, and "agreement. The work is a dramatic piece in which various chords and rhythms created by overlapping many notes appear one after another. The Bow" is another powerful and beautiful piece with a title that includes a variety of meanings, including "bowing" and "bow" of a musical instrument. Both are dedicated to Paavo Järvi. L'ombre derriere toi" by Elena Turwe, whose influences include Gregorian chant and oriental music, is a work written for three violas da gamba and strings, here soloed by the viola and two cellos. Tauno Einz's Overture Estonia, for which he is best known for his operas and other stage works, was written in 2012 to the poem Mu isamaa (My Homeland) by Estonian poet Jan Pek, and he used orchestral music to express the impression he got from the poem. Olympic Music I" by Repo Sumera, considered Estonia's most important symphonic composer, was composed for the opening of the yacht race held in Tallinn during the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Both are tonal, easy-listening yet exciting works, and this album shows us the depth of the Estonian music world that is still unknown to us. Naxos Japan
