Description:
French taste for the Orient," full of color, dominated the Classical period. The elegance and exoticism of ancient instrumentsEuropeans have long found exoticism and longing in the culture of the Islamic world, but this latest recording, made at the Palace of Versailles, sheds light on French operas of the Classical period. This latest recording, set at the Château de Versailles, highlights French operas from the Classical period. The scenes involving women (mostly Christians) held captive in the Muslim Grand Duke's palace are carefully selected, and the consistent program takes the listener on a journey into the world of Rococo opera. The program includes "The Merchant of Cairo" by Grétry, an orientalist work loved by the royal family of Versailles, "Semir et Azor" based on "Beauty and the Beast," "Soliman II" by Gibert, which was popular even after the Revolution until before World War I, and "Monsigny," which is surprisingly little recorded compared to his fame during his lifetime. The collection also includes some secret pieces by Monsigny, whose recordings are surprisingly scarce compared to his fame during his lifetime. In addition, many numbers from Gluck's hidden masterpiece "Pilgrimage to Mecca," which was born out of a love of French music in German-speaking countries, have been selected, and it is rare to be able to enjoy a performance of Mozart's masterpiece, which is often referred to as a posthumous work (......), with a French translation of the script from the same period. The lyrics are not a direct translation, but slightly different and surprisingly fresh). The performers are the best of the French elite gathered in Versailles. The beautiful voice of Florrie Valiquette, a singer who is making great strides and who also appears in the concurrently released Campra "Fate of the New Century" (CVS061), is a superb presence, but the instrumentalists also perform with style and unity, and the overture, dances, and other instrumental tracks are also well worth listening to. Clara Isambert, who is also active in Maxime Pascal's ensemble "Le Balcon" and who has been the standard-bearer of a new generation of singers, will play the harp on the final track, which will give you a taste of the atmosphere of Marie-Antoinette's time, when she loved this string instrument.
