Polish composer and conductor Ludmil Ruzicki. Together with Karol Szymanowski, Grzegosz Fitelberg, and others, he organized "Young Poland" and was known for his efforts to revitalize the musical culture of modern Poland. Although his works are rarely heard today, during his lifetime he was undoubtedly regarded as one of Poland's leading opera and ballet composers after Monieuszko. Among them is "Pan Tofardowski" (Mr. Tofardowski), Poland's first large-scale ballet, which tells the story of the legendary aristocrat and alchemist Tofardowski, who sells his soul to the devil and goes on a series of wild and ridiculous journeys. The easy-to-understand melody, based on Polish folk songs, made it very popular, and in Warsaw alone, it has been performed more than 800 times. He also wrote several instrumental works, including the Violin Concerto on this album, which requires a high level of skill from the performer. Also worth listening to is a collection of transcriptions using melodies from "Pan Tfardowski. Evelina Nowicka, a young player from Poland, plays it skillfully. Naxos Japan
