A piano trio featuring Keiko Shichijo, a virtuoso of the fortepiano, is coming! Keiko Shichijo, who won first prize at the 2004 Bruges International Early Music Competition, has been active primarily in the Netherlands and Japan. In recent years, her albums featuring Beethoven and Satie piano works—performed on instruments and tunings appropriate to each composer—have garnered significant attention. Trio Marie Zoldart, which she formed in Amsterdam in 2017 with the renowned musicians Cecilia Bernardini and Markus van den Munkhof, specializes in piano trios ranging from the Classical to the Romantic periods. In addition to performing on period instruments appropriate for each work, the ensemble aims to rediscover and pursue 19th-century performance practices; it is named after the renowned 19th-century violinist Marie Zoldat-Leger. For this recording as well, the ensemble used an original fortepiano made around 1825—a date close to 1827, when Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2 was composed. Its lustrous tone contributes significantly to the ensemble’s intimate interpretation, which masterfully captures both the brilliance of Beethoven and the deep nuances of Schubert.
