Since the Classical period, the "piano duet" has been heavily used in various settings, whether for playing orchestral pieces or operatic melodies at home or for teachers to improve the musicality and technique of their pupils. This album contains a collection of French linked works composed in the late 19th and 20th centuries, including world premiere recordings. You can enjoy a wide variety of pieces including Chaminade's and Massenet's salon-like works with a glamorous atmosphere, early unpublished works written by Chausson in his 20s, Godard's late works, heartwarming family-like pieces like the small pieces including "Pour Gaud Gault" written by Ropartz for his beloved daughter, Alkan's technical works, and more. The recording was made in 1853. The piano used for the recording is an Erard piano made in 1853. McCallum and Herrard create a rich sound on this delicate yet versatile instrument. Naxos Japan
