Alessandro Stradella was one of the most famous Italian composers of the mid-Baroque period between Monteverdi and Vivaldi, but has been surprisingly little systematically introduced to the public. The Italian viola da gamba player and conductor Andrea De Carlo, who has been discovering and recording his numerous religious music dramas year after year, will present a long musical comedy performed in Genoa, the place of the composer's demise, three years before he fell into the hands of assassins for his profligate lifestyle. While the brothers Niro and Ciro are in love with Artemisia, a noblewoman who has fallen in love with her tutor Traspolo, Traspolo is in love with Despina, a maid secretly in love with him, and Artemisia, after much turmoil, is united with one of the brothers...
