Dovienne, who promoted the development of wind instruments during the Revolutionary period, brings us to the truth of their beauty with rare recordings on old instruments! Dovienne was born in 1759. Three years younger than Mozart, he died in the early 19th century. During his lifetime, under the revolutionary government, he was known as a master of flute and bassoon (French bassoon) at the opera house and conservatory, and produced a series of masterpieces in his short life that clearly demonstrate their excellence as solo instruments. Since the days of vinyl recordings, Dovienne's works have often been included in classical concerto collections for wind instruments, but there have been only a few recordings of his works on ancient instruments. This recording vividly demonstrates the true nature of his use of sound, making the most of the mechanisms of each instrument, and many of the tracks are reminiscent of the excitement of his contemporaries. The unusual trios, in which the bassons, which were born and developed in France, are in vivid harmony with the classical melodies, should not be overlooked, but the three pieces from Op. 66, which approach the ideal flute envisioned by Dovienne with carefully selected instruments, are also astonishing. This is a disc that the group of antiquarian instrumentalists, who have already successfully released a collection of Boismortier's works on the Ricercar label, have been very particular about.
