Description:

Live video from the 18th century decorated venue] Androu Manze has captivated the world as a baroque violin soloist. In recent years, he has become known for his skill as a conductor who can handle both period and modern music. Belvedere is pleased to release a video of Manze conducting the latest revision of the composer's "Mass in C minor" at the invitation of the International Mozart Foundation in Salzburg. The coupling is "Litania," written by his father Leopold for a service in Salzburg Cathedral. The "Mass in C minor" K. 427 was written in 1783, shortly after Mozart's career in Vienna, and was performed for the first time when he returned to Salzburg after marrying his wife Constanze. However, Mozart did not write all of the music for the second half of the "Credo" and the "Agnus Dei" chapters, which have been known through a number of supplementary editions that later musicians and musicologists have attempted based on the score in the middle. The latest revision published in 2019 by Bärenreiter, known for its original editions based on thorough musicological research, is used here, and the commentary is accompanied by a detailed explanation by Ulrich Reisinger, who also worked on the revision.Manze, who has achieved a great deal in the performance of ancient instruments, has vividly brought out the true value of the score. The coupling piece, "Chain of Prayers," is an updated version of a work composed by Leopold's father in 1769, performed by his son Wolfgang. The fresh beauty of this work is also evident in this performance, which brings the original charm of the work to life. The trumpet, trombone, and timpani are played on old instruments. Naxos Japan
