GRAND PIANO, a label that records rare piano music in excellent sound quality, presents the complete piano works of Barjansky, who was born in Odessa, Ukraine. Barjansky was born into a Russian Jewish family and received his musical education in Vienna, Paris, and Leipzig, where he studied piano with Reinecke and Jadassohn. Although his works are few in number, his piano music is rich in character and charm. This first collection contains three works. The "Fantasies" shows the influence of Beethoven, Brahms, and other composers, as well as Russian coloring. While the "Six Piano Pieces" is impressionistic and luminous music, the larger-scale Piano Sonata No. 1 is a very modern and simple work that foreshadows the minimalism of the 20th century, with spatially expansive sounds as the main axis of emotional expression. Performed by Julia Severus, who studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and founded the Aurora Quartet and the Aurora Duo. She is an energetic pianist who has given the world premiere of Sichedrin's works in the presence of the composer. Naxos Japan
