Description:
This is a collection of harpsichord concertos by Joseph Antonin Szczepan (Austrian name: Josef Anton Stefan), a composer born in Bohemia in the 18th century who moved to Vienna. Born the son of an organist in a small village in Bohemia, Szczepan fled the Prussian invasion in 1741 and settled in Vienna, where he studied as a musician under Wagenseil. He composed numerous keyboard works, including more than 40 harpsichord concertos that are said to have inspired Mozart, and at one time gained such fame that he was even Marie Antoinette's teacher, but today he is largely forgotten. This album features four concertos by Szczepan. The soloist is harpsichordist Edita Keglerová, who studied piano and harpsichord in Pilsen and Prague, then at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and has won numerous international music competitions.
