Description:
This is a collection of works by Belgian composer and viola player Jean Rosistel, who also played with the Liège String Quartet. He is a peerless melody maker who makes full use of his sensitivity as a performer, and is known for his very romantic style. This album is a compilation of previously released recordings of his works mainly from World War I. At the time, Logistel was a member of the German invasion forces. At the time, Logistel managed to escape the German invasion, but lost his young wife in childbirth. Written in the midst of his deep grief, "Lamento" is one of the most heartbreaking of his works. Decades later, during World War II, the more dynamic "Allegro energico" was written and combined with this "Lamento. The small Viola Concerto and String Quartet No. 2 were written almost simultaneously and dedicated to Jules Robert, the president of the Liège Conservatory. The Farewell (Adiu), which is dedicated to the end of the World War, is a beautiful little piece dedicated to Madame Lide, who would remarry a few months later, and the solo can be played by viola as well as violin and cello (Madame Lide was a cellist).
