Description:
Recorded live in 2005. Ivor Bolton, who had just assumed the position of chief conductor, conducted the Mozarteum Orchestra in a unique performance of Mozart's "Requiem" on CD. In this performance, however, only Mozart's own original part is performed, and in between, "Seven Sound Spaces" by Georg Friedrich Haas, who was born in Graz, Austria in 1953, is performed. In between, Mozart's "Klangraum (Soundspace)" by Georg Friedrich Haas, who was born in Graz, Austria in 1953, was performed. In the "Requiem," Mozart himself was only able to complete the orchestration of the first piece, so if only his own sketches are performed, the music will be very lonely, especially after "The Day of Wrath," in which wind instruments and timpani are almost completely absent. In the "Requiem" section, the bass organ actively fills in the gaps in the sound, but the music that connects the pieces is very stimulating, as Haas himself describes it as "21st century" because of its style, which is called "spectral music" that uses techniques such as analyzing sound waves and synthesizing overtones. The text used by Haas is a letter from the Vienna Parliament, full of incomprehension, from Mozart in his last years (1791), when he was begged by Leopold Hoffmann, the music director of St. Stephen's Cathedral, to become the deputy music director. As the choir repeats this text, sometimes roaring, sometimes shouting, the orchestral accompaniment adds its own ethereal or prophetic sound, without using any of the "requiem" elements of the main work. Although thought-provoking and very challenging, this composition has since been called "G.F. Haas' version of the Requiem," and has been performed again. Naxos Japan
