Roberto Piana is a pianist and composer from Sassari, Italy. He is known for his many original compositions, and has written several pieces for the virtuoso Antonio Pompa Baldi, but on this album, Pompa Baldi performs an improvisation inspired by a "Neapolitan folk song," demonstrating a good collaboration between the two. The album is a good collaboration between the two musicians. The album features many Neapolitan folk songs, but by omitting such well-known pieces as "O sole mio" and "The Window Below," Pompa-Baldi has managed to shed light on some of the lesser-known pieces. The melancholy as well as the open tunes are very attractive. Naxos Japan
