It is a collection of works for cello and orchestra by three leading Russian composers, Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, and Rimsky=Korsakov. The program begins powerfully and excitingly with the "Capriccio-like Piece," which begins with an incisive trill, and the famous "Melody" from "Memories of a Nostalgic Land," written by Tchaikovsky for violin and piano and arranged by Glazunov, is also played with depth and beauty. With their high technique and rich expression, they powerfully sounded through the famous instrument "Ex Shapiro" made by Matteo Goffriller in 1727, and sang with heartfelt respect and empathy the beautiful melodies that the masters contributed to the cello with deep affection. Conducted by the young Shohakimov, who is 30 years old this year (2018).
