The late Italian Baroque composer Francesco Geminiani has been described as "the link between Corelli and Handel. He studied under Alessandro Scarlatti and was a concert master of the Neapolitan court orchestra before being invited to London to work under the patronage of William Capell, the 3rd Earl of Essex. He was known as "Il Furibondo," or "the hot-blooded man. The concerto concerto on this album, Op. 7, was written when Geminiani was about 59 years old. Not only was it written in an innovative configuration for its time, with a string quartet as soloists, but it was also so whimsical in an era that emphasized regularity that the members of Café Zimmermann, who decided to record it, were surprised by its novelty.
