The theme of this album is “flow.” Even when we look back on the past or experience moments when everything feels like a fleeting dream, time never stops flowing, and we cannot return to the past. The emotions and memories born from these moments are also constantly shifting and changing. Water flowing through nature has also continued to flow unchanged since ancient times. Our bodies are part of that flow, and the sounds they produce also flow onward, constantly changing form. This album features a total of 11 tracks, including original compositions by both artists inspired by these various “flows,” as well as jazz standards. While each track possesses its own distinct character, the album is structured so that a single, overarching flow can be felt throughout. Yukari Nishimura’s soft yet resilient tenor saxophone and Koji Goto’s richly colored, warm piano interweave their sounds in a dialogue within the minimalist framework of a duo. At times they draw close together, at others they highlight their individual tones, weaving sounds that can only be born in that moment. Improvisation and ensemble blend naturally, giving rise to a rich and free expression. Meticulous attention to detail in the recording process has resulted in a sound so vivid that even their breathing comes through. The spaces between notes and the atmosphere of the moment are captured with care, allowing the duo’s delicate interplay and nuances to emerge in three-dimensional depth. This album gently overlays the listener’s own time and memories, quietly blending into the fabric of daily life.
