His first solo album was released in 1968, and his unique sound was reappraised by the hip-hop generation and sampled by many artists.This album has the religiously majestic, one-of-a-kind classical psychedelic jazz-rock breakbeat sound that blossomed on the Electric Prunes' "Release Of An Oath" album, which Axelrod wrote/produced, throughout. Composed/arranged/produced by Axelrod himself. The musicians on this album include Al Casey, Howard Roberts, Carol Kaye, Earl Palmer, Don Landy, and many other top musicians from the Wrecking Crew and other groups. The bonus tracks "HOUSE OF MIRRORS" and "THE EDGE," two abstract and heavy instrumental numbers that are famous as sampling sources for the hip-hop generation, were recorded on an album by David McCallum, an actor for whom Axelrod produced the album.
