Mendelssohn, who had shown musical talent from an early age, began studying composition at the age of 12 at the recommendation of his parents under the great composer Carl Friedrich Zelter, who was a deep admirer of J.S. Bach. His early religious music, such as "Psalm 115," written around 1830, was well received not only in Germany but also in England, and when Mendelssohn stayed in England for a long time, his friend William Bartholomew commissioned Mendelssohn to compose religious works, and a series of masterpieces such as the well-known "Hear My Prayer" were produced. In this album, the excellent soloists and the Bavarian Radio Chorus weave a beautiful and solemn sound. Naxos Japan
