Handel's "Rodelinda" is as funny as a foreign TV drama directed by his son Arnoncourt. --The most remarkable video of a Handel opera in a long time: "Rodelinda," performed at the Theater an der Wien in March 2011. Conducted by the great Arnoncourt and featuring singers Daniel de Nice, Bejun Mehta, Kurt Strait, and Marlena Hernman, this is a powerful performance, but before that, we should introduce the stage performance by Arnoncourt's son, Philippe Arnoncourt, which is very interesting! Originally, "Rodelinda" was a play that was full of various elements such as usurpation of the throne, disguise, revenge, and conjugal love, but the storyline was so effective that it can be easily accepted even in the modern age. Philippe Arnoncourt has made it look like a gang war set in the present day, but not only has he made it look modern, he has also closely intertwined Handel's music, stage, and acting to make the 290-year-old opera as vivid and enjoyable as watching a foreign TV drama. The opera is a real treat, as if it were a foreign TV drama.
