Description:
Beethoven (1770-1827) composed a total of five works for four hands, most of which were written for teaching purposes. Op.6 is the only "sonata", a simple two-movement work. The second was written at the request of his friend Count Waldstein. The third is dedicated to his "immortal lovers" Therese and Josephine. The next "March" seems to have been written for his patrons. Only the final "Grand Fugue" is exceptional and is an arrangement from the "Grand Fugue for Strings. This album is elaborate in that the first piece is played on a modern instrument (YAMAHA) and the second piece is played on a fortepiano of the time. It is a good project that conveys the difference in tone quality and Beethoven's true intentions. Naxos Japan
