The song “Hanabi,” familiar from live performances by the southern Kyushu folk arts group “Nanbu-shiki,” and the Bon dance song “Haiya Deho” by the Nanbu-shiki chorus group Ohayashi Sisters are finally available on 7-inch vinyl! Both are perfect for festivals! Don’t miss out! Nanbu-shiki is a new folk music unit formed around gottan player Jinta Terahara. It’s an “old yet new” performing arts group that reinterprets and reconstructs folk music by incorporating elements such as the call-and-response style of street vendors, songs, storytelling, and giant puppets. Now in their 11th year, they are active primarily in Kagoshima and Miyazaki. They perform everywhere—from underground bars to massive festivals and festivals—wherever they’re invited, including their self-organized “Miyakonojo Hometown Night Market,” the “Under the Bridge World Music Festival” in Aichi Prefecture, Fuji Rock 2025, the Taiwan Lantern Festival, Asakusa Mokubatei, and the National Theater, among many other venues across the country. Their discography includes a demo CD-R released in 2016 (which sold out), a live recording from the 2018 Under the Bridge World Music Festival, their 1st album *Japanese Songs* released in 2020, and a 7-inch vinyl record featuring Nanbu-style folk song versions of The Blue Hearts’ classic hits released in 2022. in 2022, a 12-inch record featuring “Nanbu-style Dondokosho REMIX” was released on MACKA-CHIN’s newly established label, Kumomi Records; in 2023, a landmark 7-inch record produced in collaboration with Nanbu-style, Hatagashira, TWIGY, OWLBEATS, and JPa.k.a.chillwired was released; 2024: Release of Nanbu-shiki’s 2nd album, *Zoku Nihon no Uta*. 2024: Release of the 7-inch record *Shukusai-gumi Ie Ondo / Donpan-bushi*.
