Description:
Bertini's Mahler with prestigious orchestras! Bertini, an authority on Mahler, has given masterful performances all over the world, and the performances here, with one of the most prestigious orchestras in Europe, are even better than those already on the market. The performance of No. 6 "Tragic" from his early days in Mahler's career is as sharp as a knife. The live private recording of No. 4 from the last years of his life was very well received. The liner notes are a detailed analysis of the performance by Mr. Kwang-Jun Hsu. Liner notes in English, Japanese, and German are included. This is a collection of Mahler's masterpieces by Bertini, a maestro whose energetic activities continued until his last days. The 4th Symphony has been eagerly awaited for a CD release as a super masterpiece. The CD includes the stimulating performance of No. 6 "Tragic" from his early period, when he actively took up Mahler. All are in high sound quality. About No. 4: Listen to the third movement starting around the 14-minute mark. The sensual beauty and interiority are beautifully integrated. The Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin is by no means an orchestra with which Bertini was particularly close. Nevertheless, Bertini's music sounds perfect. Then, after 16 minutes, there is a sudden explosion from a weak note. It was a solemn moment as if the door to heaven suddenly opened, and the tremendous sound here was beyond description. This recording also offers a glimpse of that sound. It had been a long time since I had been able to appreciate what a tremendous sound an orchestra is capable of producing. Even if I had heard only this one moment, I would not be able to forget this conductor. About No. 6: From the very beginning of this performance, there is an unusual tension and sense of urgency. The tempo is as if he is driving his prey. The rhythm is merciless. Transparent and clear sound. The fastidious phrasing. And yet, this is not a dull performance that merely arranges the outside of the music. The heart is in high gear to the point of frenzy. The tempo is fast, but the melody is not smothered, but sung to the very edge. [Comment courtesy; Tobu Trading]
