A compilation of Beethoven interpretations by Afanasyev. Valery Afanasiev, who turned 76 in September and is a genius in the world of contemporary classical piano, has recorded the "Hammerklavier Sonata," Beethoven's greatest piano work during his lifetime. He was eager to preserve his own interpretation of this sonata, which his musical mentor Emile Gilleris was best known for and made a famous recording of, and he was in perfect condition to do so. Beethoven's piano music is at the root of Afanasyev's musical roots, and he has recorded 18 of them. However, No. 29 "Hammerklavier" has never been performed in concert before, and this recording is the first performance of the piece. The recording is the first performance of the piece, and the keen eye that has gone into every detail of the score is astonishing, as the composer has studied the work for many years. The performance time is 58 minutes in four movements, slower than Schubert's last sonata (ECM 1985 recording), which made Afanasyev's name world famous. The third movement Adagio in particular, which takes 22 minutes to build up slowly, has a jet-black depth that seems to absorb the listener.
