Description:

Hiroshima-based artist Mei Ding, who has been in the limelight of the global electronic and ambient scene with his one-of-a-kind originality inspired by old Japanese culture, releases a sequel to his 2020 masterpiece album "Kofu". (Repressed in 2024) Under the theme of "LOST JAPANESE MOOD" (lost Japanese mood), the trilogy "Kwaidan" and "Kofu" reconstructed nostalgic sound scenes of old Japanese historical moments forgotten over time by fusing ambient music and music concrete. Mei Ching has received extremely high acclaim for his trilogy "Kwaidan", "Komachi", and "Kofu". After the release of his last album, "Kofu," Mei Ding realized that he still had 47 more tracks to complete for "Kofu," so he created "Kofu II," which expands on the worldview of "Kofu" while also reflecting more deeply on the Japanese identity. The album opens with lively harmonies ranging from cheerful whistling to the sounds of insects and Japanese instruments. The following "Ya Hyakuhacho" (M-3) uses pitch-shifted vocal samples and a unique beat to express the vitality of Edo as it once was, while the melancholic "Kaworu" (M-4) plays a final requiem to her, using sessions from the making of the album "Komachi" dedicated by Meitei to his late grandmother The second half of the album, "Saryo" (M-4), is the final requiem to her. In "Saryo" (M-10), the second half of the album, each note is a repetition of synth sounds like the movement of a brushstroke that evokes a sense of serenity. The song was inspired by ink paintings Mei Ding used to look at at his grandmother's house, which he connected with his impressions of a tea house he once visited. I was moved by the decaying clay walls and faded tatami mats," Mei Ding says, "and decided to try to capture the cosmic passage of time in that small room in music." Mei Ding says. The highly dramatic development of "Akira Kurosawa" (M-11) resonates deeply with Kurosawa's work, which depicts the rich traditions of Japan and the post-World War II turmoil in equal measure. For years, Mei Ding has been trying to find what he envisions as Japaneseness and Japaneseness, and after seeking answers to these questions on his last three albums, he raises even more questions with this album. Can looking back on the past help us to have a clearer present? After capturing the "LOST JAPANESE MOOD," where is Japan headed in contemporary society? Kofu II" proposes that we reconsider our relationship with the past in a variety of moods and textural sound fragments.
