Finom (formerly known as Ohm), a Chicago indie-rock band comprised of Seema Cunningham and Macy Stewart. The band represents the thriving Chicago indie scene with the release of their third album, "Not God," produced by Jeff Tweedy (Wilco). Not God is the new album from Chicago's beloved two-headed monster, Finom (formerly known as Ohme). We could ask more about the boring reason the two changed their names, but for now, we'll politely decline to answer: the two co-fronted by Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart, Finom has a vast and diverse range of influences and a heavy emphasis on change. Produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Not God is a progression from this collaborative band's roots (whose history can be traced back to the conception of improvisation) and shows tremendous growth. This is in part thanks to their hometown of Chicago, a life raft of musical adventures for many.The energy of Chicago and Finom's dramatic vocal/musical talents combine to place the two on the periphery of the legacy established by The Roches, Roxy Music, The B52s, Kate Bush, Cate Le Bon, and Wilco. Stewart are in fine harmony, but harmony does not equal utopia; for Finom, harmony is also a battle to hold the line until the volcano erupts. This realistic portrayal of a creative relationship shakes up the entire song "Not God" and brings the whole thing to life; Finom is a plurality of people with multiple dreams. But still, they grow together through their shared love of pop songwriting, control, chaos, and being a little weird. These ways are only really fun when done with friends. As the earth turns and progress is made, it sometimes feels essential to return to the relationships that create the energy of strength and relief that makes us feel whole.It doubles the weight of the reality that Sima and Macie are pledging their allegiance to each other in the front seat of a car off the highway at the foot of the volcano.
