On this, Mitski's most sonically expansive, grandiose, and wise album to date, the songs seem to bring wounds and then actively heal them. Here, love is like light from a distant star, time-traveling to bless our tender days. The album was recorded at Bomb Shelter in East Nashville and Sunset Sound, a studio in Los Angeles, with an orchestra arranged/conducted by DrewErickson and arranged by Mitsuki for a total of 17 musicians (12 in Los Angeles and The full choir consists of 17 members (12 in Los Angeles and 5 in Nashville).Working with her longtime producer, Patrick Hyland, the album will include a variety of elements, including a new "live" recording with the band in the studio, which Mitski first felt was "important to create this new sublime sound. "This is my most American album yet," says Mitski. This is my most American album," Mitski says of her seventh album, which sounds like a profound act of witnessing this country in all its private sorrows and painful contradictions. But "maybe it's more than witnessing," she says. Often, Mitski says, "life can feel easier without hope, without soul, without love." On the other hand, when she closes her eyes and thinks about what is truly hers, what will never be seized or torn down, she sees love. 'The best thing I have done in my life is love others. I wish I could leave behind all the love I have after I die. Then I can let all the goodness, all the good love I have created, shine on others," Mitski says.She hopes that The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We will continue to shine with that love long after she is gone. Listening to this album, that is exactly what it feels like.
