Echoes of Walter and Breutner. The Iranian-born virtuoso will play two period pianos, a replica model of the "Anton Walter of 1790" by Paul McNulty, one of the best period piano makers of his day, and the original Brüttner piano built in 1905, which you will have the luxury of comparing. The two Bachs (W.F&C.P.E.) and Beethoven are played on the "Walter replica", and the Great Bach and Schoenberg on the "Brüttner", and the blend of the style of each work and the tone of the historical instruments is exquisite. Arash Rokni is a pianist from Tehran, Iran, who has won prizes at the Aarhus International Piano Competition and the 21st International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition (Leipzig). After moving to Germany to study modern piano in Leipzig and Cologne, he studied fortepiano and other historical instruments under Gerard Hambitzer and Michael Volkstede, and is a remarkable hybrid player of modern and period instruments.
