Description:
The last album by the original lineup, 10 years after the band's formation! Their 8th studio album, which blends traditional heavy riffs with hard rock and funk to create an experimental sound! Originally released on September 29, 1978 on Vertigo Records "Never Say Die!" Towards the end of 1977, Black Sabbath was in a state of confusion. All the problems that surfaced adversely affected the band's ability to function, and finally Ozzy Osbourne could not take it anymore and quit the band at the end of the "Technical Ecstasy World Tour". Former Savoy Brown vocalist Dave Walker temporarily filled Ozzy's shoes, resulting in the first lineup change since the band's inception 10 years ago. However, Dave Walker's tenure was very short-lived, and Ozzy returned to the band to fulfill his duties as lead vocalist once again, moving to Toronto, Canada for recording sessions and to finish "Never Say Die! Despite continued internal and external problems, the album's title track, released in June 1978, reached #21 on the singles chart and earned them an appearance on the influential chart TV show "Top Of The Pops". The band enjoyed its biggest exposure since the release of "Paranoid" in 1970. The second single, 'Hard Road', reached a respectable #33, but the album's release in September 1978 was met with a mixed reaction from the devoted fans, despite the inclusion of such strong songs as 'Johnny Blade' and 'Junior's Eyes'. The album's title, "Nope", is a bit of a misnomer. The clear call to arms given by the album title, "Never Say Die!", may have been a mission statement for the band members to break through the problems, regardless of the possibilities. Unfortunately, "Never Say Die!" had the opposite effect, as Ozzy left the band for the second time during a US tour in support of the album, this time seemingly never to return. The reason is that he has formed a new band, Blizzard Of Ozz, with Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, and the band is now in the midst of a tour of the U.S. in support of the album, and this time it seemed like he would never return.
