Suicide is a New York band known as a representative of proto-punk. Despite their underground existence, their third album "A WAY OF LIFE" has had a major impact on the music scene since the 1980s, including indie rock, industrial music, techno, noise, goth, synth pop, and electro. The album is now back with the latest remastering in 2023, including new bonus tracks such as a cover of Springsteen's "Born In The USA"! Formed in the early 1970s by Alan Vega and Martin Lev, the New York band Suicide shocked the music scene with their minimalist synth/electric sound using synths and early drum machines. The Ramones and Patti Smith. Suicide was gaining a reputation for their challenging live performances, playing venues such as CBGB and Max's Kansas City in New York City, where the Ramones, Patti Smith, and Televisions were emerging and the punk scene was on the rise.They never had a sound or style that was accepted by the mainstream, but their impact on the scene was immeasurable. Their minimalist synth sounds and beats influenced many of the synth-pop bands that emerged after the 1980s, and their aggressive performances were carried over into punk. Indeed, artists who profess to be their influences and fans range from Nick Cave, M.I.A., Spiritualized, and Lydia Lunch to Bobby Gillespie and The Savages. The Suicide's third album, "A WAY OF LIFE," released in 1988, will be revived in 2023 with the latest remastered sound to celebrate the 35th anniversary of its release. Produced by two members of Suicide, Alan Vega and Martin Lev, and Rick Ocasek of The Cars, the album features classic songs such as "Surrender," "Jukebox Baby 96," and "Dominic Christ.The original album has been newly remastered by Denis Blackham of Skye Mastering, who has also worked on previous Suicide reissues. In addition, a bonus track, "Heat Beat," which was originally the B-side of a single and was not included on the original 1988 album, "Devastation" from a 1988 Paris concert that musician/producer Jared Artaud discovered while searching the archives of the late Alain Vega, and "The Souls of the Souls of the Souls" from the 1988 Paris concert are also newly remastered by Denis Blackham of Skye Mastering. Additional bonus tracks include "Devastation," a cover of "Cheree" and Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA," and an early studio version of "Dominic Christ," all recorded at a 1988 Paris concert that musician/producer Jared Artaud discovered while searching the late Alan Vega's archives. (As an aside, Bruce Springsteen later covered their song "Dream Baby Dream. SUICIDE was once described as "a band that will forever play sounds from the future"-their legacy is still being passed on to other bands.
