The world of Shimanovsky's colorful love story by Sklide and PetrenkoThe fourth release on the remarkable Baiba Sklide Orfeo label is an album of Shimanovsky's Violin Concerto, which is also the first time he and Petrenko have performed together. The CD release is very welcome, as both musicians have been playing the concerto in many countries since it was performed at the BBC Proms last September, and it has been well received. Although Szymanowski is one of Poland's greatest modern composers, his upbringing has given him a Russian musical influence, and his bloodline has given him a Scandinavian sensibility, making him a perfect match for the Latvian Sklide and the Russian Petrenko. The first concerto is representative of the mid-term period in which Shmanovsky established his style. The large orchestra and the exquisite compositional technique of the first concerto allow the listener to fall in love with a world of fantasy in the same vein as that of Symphony No. 3 "Night Songs" and Piano Sonata No. 3. Sklide's performance is brilliant, the best of all the concerto albums he has released so far. In No. 1, he reproduced the solo part with unreal beauty, which makes heavy use of the high register. The superb cadenza is particularly impressive. The precise technique without any ambiguity is admirable. The Second Symphony is in full swing with a vibrant energy, and the rhythmic groove is superb. Petrenko's performance is almost symphonic. The finely calculated score is exquisitely balanced to sustain an endless world of sensuality. Although the music of Szymanowski has an image of being difficult to understand, the dazzling colors and sparkling sounds of the harp and celesta will make you fall in love with it. The cool tone of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra is also a perfect match for Szymanowski's music. The coupling piece is "Myth" for violin and piano. The piano part is played by his sister, Rauma, which is also attractive.With a sensitivity unique to women, they recreate the world of love as depicted by Szymanowski. King International
