Perfect "America" by the Tarich String QuartetThe Tarich String Quartet has a history of over 50 years as one of the world's top string quartets. Without them, Czech chamber music would not be what it is today. The quartet's new release includes "America," all eight waltzes (two arranged by Dvořák and six arranged by Izzy Kabárt, a former member of the Pavel Haas String Quartet, in 2020), and a string quartet fragment. Eight Waltzes was originally a piano piece, and its popularity and sales rivaled those of the "Slavonic Dances" for piano four hands. Dvořák himself arranged two of the most popular waltzes for string quartet for a concert of the Society of Artists. They are fascinating works full of folkloric dynamism. The six pieces in the quartet were arranged in 2020, but they bring out the best of the original music. The string quartet fragment was begun at the same time as the waltz, but only the first movement survived and was never published during his lifetime. The aria by Agate from Weber's "The Magician's Archer" is strikingly quoted. The Tarich String Quartet was founded in 1964 by Jan Tarich, Jr. while studying at the Prague Conservatory, and the group was named after his uncle, Václav Tarich, who served as chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic from 1919 to 1939.All members have now been replaced over the course of a wide range of musical and recording activities.
