This time, the album is a tag-album with El Grupo Renacimiento, a "legendary" B-grade salsa dura (=hard salsa) band from the 1970s that dealt with themes of police brutality, social alienation, and addiction and supported popular struggles in the city.... The album is a fictionalized version of "El Grupo Renacimiento," but in reality, everything is performed by Meridian, who have reimagined traditional music based on their extensive and profound insight into Colombia's musical heritage. This album is a reimagining of the music with a sound that is both vintage and piercing to the modern floor. The lead single "Metamorfosis," with its deconstructed salsa percussion and guaracha rhythms, depicts a fictional near-future in which Kafkaesque absurdity is robotized, while the vintage-inspired "Bomba," a killer tune from the Coco Maria compilation "Club Coco," is a perfect example of the kind of music that can be found on the album. The vintage-inspired "Bomba Atomica," a killer tune included in the Coco Maria compilation "Club Coco," "Descarga Profetica," an oddly rushing single-note electric guitar ensemble that could be described as a high-speed cha-cha, "Hipnosis," a salsa dura with an agile yet profound ensemble that is truly Colombian, and many more...It is also surprising that the release source is Ansonia, a prestigious label that used to mass-produce Latin catalogs. The label is currently distributing its past catalog one after another, but this is the first time in 30 years that they are releasing a physical album. Meridian, which connects the past and future of Colombian music while also empowering the people of today, is a label to keep an eye on!
