This album features a diverse array of concertos born from an insatiable curiosity for new timbres. It is a stimulating and vibrant recording that allows listeners to experience the astonishing colors and sound effects that represent the very essence of Vivaldi. RV557 and RV555 feature a rich variety of instrumentations reminiscent of the works of Heinichen, who was active in Dresden. RV555, in particular, is a masterpiece that generously features solos for wind instruments, strings, and harpsichord, creating a richly inspired and colorful soundscape. It can be considered the vanguard of a genre that was all the rage in Saxony during the 1720s and 1730s. In RV553, which employs four violins—all sharing a similar timbre—as soloists, the soloists frequently split into two groups to engage in dialogue, creating a captivating interplay. The contrast between the brilliant concerto grosso style of the outer movements and the gentle, lyrical chamber concerto style of the slow movement is also striking. The program also features a superb lineup of delightful pieces, including RV570 “Storm at Sea,” with its irresistibly exhilarating rapid scales, and RV535 and RV543, in which the oboe plays a prominent role. "Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco," under the musical direction of Milan-born keyboardist and conductor Gianluca Capuano, is a period instrument orchestra founded by Cecilia Bartoli with the support of the Principality of Monaco. This ensemble possesses the technical skill and elegance to handle works of any instrumentation with ease, bringing these incredibly diverse pieces to life with a subtle sense of balance.
