Les Arts Florissants & William Christie;Handel (1685-1759)

Description:

Christy & Leszar FlorissantHandel's beloved work, recorded with his brilliant brushwork! Christie leads Lezard Florissant in a recording of one of his beloved works, Handel's oratorio "The Vivacious Man, the Pensive Man, and the Mild Man". This work has a philosophical and moral purpose, somewhere between an oratorio and a serenata (a small-scale operatic work) or an ode, and is said to be somewhat enigmatic, but it is full of Handel's charms, including his musical writing in accordance with the lyrics, his masterful orchestral writing, and the beauty of the melodies in the sung parts. The work is full of the charms of Handel's music. Christie has an extraordinary affection for this work, which he performed at the Opéra de Paris in 2007. The work was written in just two weeks in the winter of 1740, just as London audiences were growing tired of Handel's Italian-language operas. The text for the first and second parts was based on John Milton's original story, with a libretto by Charles Jennens (who also wrote the libretto for Messiah). Part 3 is an original by Jennens. The first part, "Allegro," contains a self-portrait of Handel with organ ad-libs, followed by the second part, "Penseroso," in which Milton's philosophical words are depicted through sound. The third part, "Moderato," sings about the importance of "moderating everything in moderation. In preparing for this work, Christie repeatedly told the players, "Don't just play the notes, paint every word. The instrumentalists played along with the singers and their words, changing their facial expressions to match the inflections of the words, creating a marvelous sense of unity between the singers and the ensemble. The singers' skill and the orchestral beauty of the soft, natural intonation that is unique to Les Arts Florissants are overwhelmingly beautiful. King International
