With the image of such an ideal place in mind, he visited eight locations close to his home in the Marche region of central Italy for field recordings. In these works, which he wrote in his home studio, each place and its mental landscape become one, and the music beautifully expresses scenes that cannot be expressed in words. The album is also elaborately structured. The eight songs on the album are compared to the medieval musical scale called "octoecos," or "eight keys," and likened to "a path from the weight of material life to spiritual bliss and perfection, just as one progresses from darkness to light. In addition, the various locations can be visited according to the order in which they are recorded, and the "breath" between them signifies rest along the way. From "Soul I," which marks the start of the journey, to "Sybil," which marks the end of the journey, the beautiful arpeggios in the main and parallel keys are appealing throughout the album. While the sparkling grand piano is highlighted in the toccata of "Amber Maze," which wanders through a cave with no exit, and in the lilting melody of "Sybil," which stands atop a steep peak, "Breath" uses an upright piano, characterized by its felted, rounded tone and the ambience created by the reverberations.
