The Lauten Company invites us on a winter musical journey through the music of the Baroque. The album features 24 popular works from the 16th and 17th centuries in new arrangements, including motets by important German Renaissance and early Baroque composers such as Praetorius, Schütz, and Schein, as well as atmospheric folklore pieces that are still well known today. All of the works featured reflect various aspects of winter, including warmth, winter nature, Christmas joy, solitude, and longing for spring. Songs such as "Oh, harsh winter, how cold it is" express the harshness of the season, while choral pieces such as Hammerschmidt's "Welcome, Infant Jesus" and Schütz's "We have a Green Child" convey the joy of winter.For this recording, the Lauten Company has enlisted vocal soloists Hannah Heerfurtner (soprano), Darfit Ehrler (countertenor), Stefan Scherpe (tenor), and Jakop Arles (bass) to capture the harshness and joys of winter.
