Alexander Grichtlik is a German harpsichordist, conductor, and musicologist born in 1980. He has reconstructed various selected works from Bach's Weimar period, restoring lost works by Bach and historical reconstructions such as the Mark Passion, which have received rave reviews from Bach scholars, experts and critics. This album is the third in a series of restoration albums by Grichtlijk for the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi. BWV.205a was composed in 1734 to celebrate the birthday of Elector Friedrich August II of Saxony (script survives, music lost), and is one of the 15 pieces from the secular cantata "Breaking, Shattering, Breaking (Aeolus subdued)," BWV.205, It is known that 12 pieces, including the recitative, were appropriated. This is the world premiere recording of a newly restored and revised version, taking into consideration Grychtryk's research on Bach's music, keyboard technique, and musical structure.The "Easter Oratorio BWV 249" is one of the famous cantatas premiered in Leipzig on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1725, which was adapted from the secular cantata "Flee, O depart, depart" BWV 249a (Shepherd's Cantata, music lost, libretto survives) premiered on February 23, 1725, the birthday of Christian of Saxe-Weissenfels.
