A call to our time by the new generation composer-pianist Conrad Tao! Conrad Tao is a new generation composer-pianist. He has already released two albums on Warner Classics and has been highly acclaimed for his innovative approach. This third album features modern and contemporary American works, tracing the roots of "popular revolt" from the effects of the 1930s strike at the coal mines in Kentucky and Harlan County to the 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. Known for his "Undaunted People" Variations, Jefsky was always a composer with an eye on social issues, and the two pieces on this album from "North American Ballads" are also associated with the American labor movement, which Jefsky himself described as "the oldest protest and labor songs in the United States. Jefsky himself describes them as "extended variations on old American protest and labor songs. In "Which Side Are You On?" is an improvisation in which Tao is in his element, and in which he displays his brilliant technique to the fullest. Julia Wolfe's "Compassion" is a work that empathizes with the grief of 9/11.Copland's "Piano Sonata" is based on a meditative and abstract style, and is not the intimate music of "Billy the Kid" or "Appalachian Spring," but a masterpiece that symbolizes the anxious times of the sad 1930s and 1940s. In light of those events, Tao calls upon the people of today to reflect on his thoughts through music. Warner Music Japan
