Description:
Rossini arias performed by two master tenors using legato and coloratura techniques! A collection of Rossini arias sung by Michael Spires, a tenor who has taken the world by storm, and Lawrence Brownlee, the one and only "Rossini singer". The album includes arias, duets, and trios from seven operas composed between 1815 and 1826, all of which, with the exception of "The Barber of Seville," are associated with the Opera di San Carlo in Naples, where Rossini was known to write songs with specific singers in mind. Giovanni David, Manuel Garcia, and Luigi Zamboni were the leading singers of their time, all of whom possessed a high level of technique, and Rossini gave them brilliant arias to thoroughly exploit the singers' strengths. Spires and Brownlee performed together for the first time at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in 2018. Although their voices are different from each other, both were able to use legato and coloratura techniques to recreate the feast of 19th century tenors in a modern setting. They have also known each other for more than 10 years prior to their first collaboration, and Spires has always held Brownlee in high regard, saying, "Brownlee and I are both friends and good rivals. The album not only offers the full enjoyment of the two brilliant voices, Brownlee with his clear and beautiful tenor sound and Spires with his near-baritone voice and improvisational phrasing, but also the young mezzo-soprano Tara Elote, who appears on several songs, and the up-and-coming Spanish tenor Sabea Andúa, who is also featured on the album. The passionate singing of young mezzo-soprano Tara Eroto and up-and-coming Spanish tenor Xavier Anduaga, who appear in several of the songs, also add to the work. Warner Music Japan
