Popular pianist Benny Green, who has entered the realm of veteran pianists, will be performing live at the top of his game! The location is the Kumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, California! This place is an important stronghold for Benny's jazz career, a home base of sorts. This club is where he performed as a member of Betty Carter and Blakey, and it is also where he recorded a piece with Ray Brown in 1993, and where he celebrated his 30th birthday. In 2013 and 2014, the band celebrated its 50th birthday, and in consultation with the club owner, decided to record live at the club. The result of this project, "Live in Santa Cruz! This album was recorded live again in the same place with familiar friends. David Wong and Rodney Green also visited Japan in 2016, and the high quality of the content can be seen in the background alone, but in fact, there is something about this live performance that makes the listener's heart skip a beat. But that's just as well.The recording of this show, which was initially made as a matter of habit and not with the intention of being made into a work of art, came as a surprise to Benny Green himself, and he decided to make the recording into a work of art. In other words, here is the result of the artist himself feeling that the performance was better than expected." The place that Benny Green describes as "a magical space that makes you feel great about yourself," was filled with an enthusiastic crowd that night. Needless to say, the enthusiasm of the crowd gave the trio even more energy. Even the pre-concert introduction was enough to convey the audience's anticipation, but once the performance began, the atmosphere was electric. The audience was filled with excitement as the energetic swingy rhythms and the bluesy phrasing of the jazz piano, which should be considered the royal road to jazz piano, were delivered with outstanding technique. In contrast to the "Live in Santa Cruz," this year's program consisted mainly of standard numbers, which was also interesting.Recorded on June 13, 2016, this is a masterpiece that shows the pianist at his best at age 52! This is a great live work that shows the pianist at his best!
