Vaughan Williams' symphonies, taking over the baton from Hickox! Sir Andrew Davis, who took over the baton from the late Richard Hickox as "the evangelist of British music", has created new masterpieces of British music including Elgar, Dilius, Holst, and Bax. The new Vaughan Williams recording is part of his great project to take over the symphonic cycle started by Richard Hickox in the latter stages of his career, but left unfinished when his ambition was half-finished.Chandos, which has made significant contributions to the history of Vaughan Williams recordings, including the Gramophone Grand Prize-winning "London Symphony (Original Version/CHAN 9902)," is pleased to announce a new addition to its Vaughan Williams recording collection! Alexander Kagan, the concertmaster and soloist for "Job" on this recording, is a young elite violinist born to a great Russian musical family, Oleg Kagan and Natalya Gutman. Along with his current position as Associate Concertmaster of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, he has also served as Concertmaster of the Norrland Opera since the 2016/17 season. Also playing the flugelhorn solo in Symphony No. 9 is Martin Winter, a legendary British cornetist who is now based in Norway, including with the Bergen Philharmonic. Tokyo M-Plus
