British piano virtuoso Stephen Hough is one of Hyperion's most celebrated pianists, with four Grammy nominations and eight Gramophone Awards to his name, including two "Record of the Year" awards. His new recordings are based on his own piano sonata No. 4, "Fragile Life," which has attracted attention as a composer, as well as Chopin's Funeral Sonata, Liszt's Funeral Sonata, and Hough's Piano Sonata No. 4, "The Life of a Piano Sonata," which has attracted attention as a composer. The new recording features Hough's own Sonata No. 4 "Fragile Life," a work that has attracted much attention as a composer, Chopin's Funeral Sonata, and Liszt's Funeral Sonata. The dazzling and captivating lineup includes such gems as Bach-Busoni's Chaconne and Gounod's Ave Maria, as well as Hough's arrangement of the Korean folk song "Arirang.Hough's Piano Sonata No. 4, subtitled "A Fragile Life (Vida breve)," also known as the title of an opera composed by Falla, was written for Micah McLaughlin, the 2016 Gilmore Young Artist Award winner by the Gilmore International Keyboard Music Festival in Michigan. It was composed and premiered by Stephen Hough himself in 2018. Composed by five small motifs, including Charles Trenet's "Paris in April," the piece depicts a fragile yet intense life in a single movement of about 10 minutes, from a simple beautiful melody to a gradually developing complex fugue to a passionate upheaval.
