Beethoven's "Rural" & Stucky's "Silent Spring" REFERENCE RECORDINGS has long been highly acclaimed as a high sound quality label, and sound mirror, which has been responsible for recording not only REFERENCE RECORDINGS but also PENTATONE, BIS, and many other labels with a reputation for recording quality for over 40 years, has joined forces to produce the highly acclaimed "Pittsburgh Live! sound mirror, a company that has been in charge of recording for over 40 years, has teamed up to produce the highly popular "Pittsburgh Live! series. The 13th installment of the series features Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 "The Countryside" and the coupling "Silent Spring" (commissioned by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) by American composer Stephen Stucky, who died in 2016. The piece was premiered on February 12, 2012, conducted by Manfred Honeck, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Pittsburgh-born author Rachel Carson's classic work "The Silent Spring," which had a profound impact on the entire world as a pioneering book warning against the destruction of nature. The music reminds us of the beauty of nature in a time when we have forgotten it. Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 "The Countryside," another great work of music that expresses awe and admiration for nature, was premiered on February 12, 2012, conducted by Manfred Honeck.Honeck states in the liner notes. The last two chords of the fifth movement are long triadic intervals reminiscent of the second movement. Is this the cuckoo's last word, or is it a farewell? Either way, it is not a strong ending like Beethoven's other eight pieces, especially in stark contrast to the Fifth. (omission) The Beethoven before us is not a shining hero, but a human being who, like us, must express his profound gratitude in pure and complete harmony with nature and God." Honeck has extended his contract with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, where he has served as principal conductor since 2008, through the 2027/2028 season. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has been led by many world-class conductors, including Fritz Reiner, André Previn, Lorin Maazel, and Mariss Jansons. The orchestra has also always been committed to new works, including commissions from contemporary composers such as Mason Bates, Jonathan Leshnoff, James MacMillan, and Julia Wolff.This is the 14th season with Manfred Honeck, and with the orchestra's 125-year history, there is much to look forward to in the future for further activities.
