In 2012, he won the first prize at the Marco International Conducting Competition in Copenhagen. He has performed with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and will appear with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in its subscription concert in 2020. Payare, who has been Music Director of the prestigious Montreal Symphony Orchestra since the 2022/2023 season, made his debut with the orchestra in 2018. He has been active with the orchestra since the 2021/2022 season, and his relationship with the orchestra has deepened over the years. He is also actively involved in recording activities, releasing "Mahler: Symphony No. 5" (KKC-6650 / PTC-5187067) and "R. Strauss: 'Life of Hero' & Mahler: 'Rückert Lieder'" (PTC-5187201) on the PENTATONE label. This album includes Schoenberg's "Pelléas et Mélisande" and "The Purified Night," a symphonic poem composed between 1902 and 1903 and first performed in 1905. It was conducted by Schoenberg himself and performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Although the melody is in the style of late Romanticism, the work, which precedes the atonal period, is full of diverse experimentation, including chords in the fourth degree, complex counterpoint, and an unusual form that resembles a symphony in a single movement. The Purified Night" was composed in 1899 for string sextet, but this performance is based on the version arranged for string ensemble and revised in 1943. This is a masterpiece of Schoenberg's early and late Romantic period, in which Schoenberg showed his creative spirit. This is a sparkling performance of the repertoire in which Pajare excels. The booklet includes Schoenberg's portraits and paintings. The recording was made by Martin Sauer, a renowned engineer at Teldex Studios. The recording is also remarkable for its excellence. The Japanese obi is not included. (King International)
