This is the latest release from the duo of Portuguese virtuosos Bruno Monteiro and João Paulo Santos, who have been performing together for over 20 years. In recent years, the duo has garnered high acclaim, with their recordings on this label receiving consecutive nominations for the ICMA (International Classical Music Awards). Their latest album is organized around the theme of “Late Romanticism.” It opens with Dohnányi’s “Violin Sonata in F-sharp minor,” which fuses the tradition of Brahms with Liszt’s harmonic challenges, followed by Janáček’s “Violin Sonata,” which reflects the tensions of World War I. Additionally, the album features Tchaikovsky’s “Memories of a Distant Land” and Saint-Saëns’s brilliant virtuoso piece “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso”—originally written with orchestral accompaniment—in Bizet’s piano-accompaniment version.
